The building of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania-ELCT, Eastern and Coastal Diocese, Segerea Parish, Ilala District in Dar es Salaam, which its pulpit was burnt by the petrol bomb on 24th August, 2013 by unidentified person. No body lost life, or has been arrested.
The pulpit of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania, Eastern and Coastal Diocese, Segerea Parish in Dar es Salaam, on Saturday of 24th August, 2013 was torched by petrol bomb by unidentified person.
The incidence took place around 1:30 p.m during overnight prayer as preparation for the Gospel open meeting which was scheduled to begin on the following day, Sunday, at the church compound.
Reverend Noah Kipingu said when the prayers continue, suddenly, they saw something thrown inside from outside the church with flames of fire reaching the pulpit and burst, forming a fire which spread all over the pulpit burning the Holy Bible,carpets and other items.
“We were in a circle at the pulpit praying, when we saw a big explosion behind us and flames of fire spread the pulpit,” said Reverend Kipingu and added that:
“In fact no body could stand the explosion, every one found a way out to serve life.” The fire was later controlled and put off.
Not only the pulpit and church items were set on fire, but also the car of Rev Kipingu, Toyota Cresta, no. T 482 BAF which was outside the church was also partially burnt.
“The fire burnt the Holy Bible and the carpets, while people were running outside, others fell down and injured their feet. The attackers used 3 bottles filled with petrol.
Special Zone Police Commander, Commissioner, Suleiman Kova, said no body lost life and mentioned the incident as failure crime.
The wave of torching churches in Tanzania is still on move, accompanied by clergies killings and others injured. Fundamentalist Muslims have plotted to eradicate Christianity in Tanzania, claiming that, Tanzania is governed under Christendom system. The claim is not true They yearn to see Shariah laws substitute the secular laws.
Constitutionally, Tanzania is a secular state.
